Africa Arise is empowering a Ugandan organization called "I Live Again Uganda." Ugandan founded and run, I Live Again Uganda aims at bringing holistic restoration to the victims of the war that plagued Northern Uganda for more than 23 years. 1.8 million individuals were displaced and over 30,000 children were abducted by the Lords Resistance Army. The war is over and its time for restoration!
I Live Again Uganda provides holistic restoration in the following programs:
- Trauma Counseling
- Micro Loans
- Education/Job Skill Training Support
- Resettlement to those still displaced from the war
Acholi Quarter - Slum/Urban Displacement Camp
Africa Arise and I Live Again Uganda are targeting their efforts to those still displaced by the war. Acholi Quarter is a slum. Some have claimed it as an urban displacement camp because victims of the war fled to this region during the time of the war. Over 11,000 former child soldiers, rape victims and witnesses of the atrocities of the war are currently living in absolute poverty. The main way of survival in this area is working in the stone quarries or making and selling paper bead jewelry. We believe in a greater future for those in this community. It is our aim and our partners at I Live Again Uganda to see those living in the slum restored emotionally, spiritually, economically and physically. Now that peace has come to Northern Uganda we are working hard to see the families return to their villages in Northern Uganda so that culture can be restore and children will know a life outside of the poverty of the slum.
We aim at empowering our partners in Uganda to become self sustaining. We do not want them to be dependent upon us for life. We are currently working on a few projects with our partners that we hope to bring them regular funding so that in the future they will not depend or rely on us. Please contact us if you would like to be part of this with us.
